CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHT

Carla Hayden

“I’m a little nervous, because I haven’t been out much,” declared former Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden, wryly referring to her abrupt dismissal earlier this year. Hayden spoke in conversation with Newbery Medal-winning author Kwame Alexander. She relayed how she was in her mother’s home when she received a short email, addressed simply to “Carla.”

The room was absolutely packed for "Don't Just Shake It Off: Using Debriefing Tools to Support Frontline Library Staff," but the presentation was so good it was worth my no-visibility vantage point from the floor. Mental health needs to be a priority for staff! #ALAAC25—@‪hifurfur.bsky.social‬
